Greenlyte Carbon Technologies GmbH

Based in Essen, Germany, and founded in 2022, Greenlyte Carbon Technologies GmbH develops and markets a low-temperature DAC process that captures CO2 from the air. Florian Hildebrand (CEO), Peter Behr (CSO), and Nicholas Friederichsen (CTO/CPO) are the co-founders of the company. In June 2023, Greenlyte Carbon Technologies raised EUR 4. 5 million in pre-seed funding from unspecified investors.

 The company develops a direct air capture technology that converts ambient air into green hydrocarbons in order to free the biosphere from fossil fuels by removing CO2 from the environment. The firm develops and sells a low-temperature direct air capture technology that involves three steps: absorption in a liquid sorbent solution, precipitation as hydrogen carbonate, and desorption either through thermal, low-calorific waste heat or alkaline water electrolysis, which yields hydrogen as a byproduct. Greenlyte’s partners include the University of Duisburg-Essen, Essen Business Development Corporation, Digital Hub Rhein-Neckar GmbH, and others. The company intends  to use its March 2024 funding to increase staff size and operational scope.
