Based in California, US, and founded in 2011, Ginger. io, Inc. , formerly known as Gingerd, operates as a provider of a mobile application enabling employees to access behavioral health coaching and self-guided content to improve mental health. The company is a spin-out from the MIT Media Lab and as of 2021, the company's COE is Russell Glass.

In March 2021, Ginger. io, Inc. raised USD 100 million in Series E funding led by  Blackstone Group. The round values the company at USD 1 billion post-money.

The firm also entered into an agreement to merge with Headspace, Inc. in August 2021, forming the combined company, Headspace Health. The platform also offers a chat feature that enables users to contact a coach, therapist, or psychiatrist. The company reaches people around the world in 30 countries through its partnerships with employers and health plans.

Also, the Ginger app is available on iOS and Android, where members can conveniently connect with Ginger’s team of behavioral health coaches.   Ginger. io, Inc. plans to use the series E funds to increase access to care for underserved populations as well as to invest in R&D and technology.

Following the merger with Headspace, Inc. , which is expected to close in the last quarter of 2021, the firm's combined company, Headspace Health, will provide a digital mental health and wellbeing platform that will democratize mental healthcare to provide spectrum support for everyone.
