Femtum

Based in Québec, Canada, and founded in 2017 by its CEO, Louis-Rafaël Robichaud, and CTO, Simon Duval, Femtum operates as a provider of selective laser microprocessing and mid-IR spectroscopy to address the needs of industrial manufacturers and scientific teams. In January 2024, Femtum raised CAD 5 million in seed funding col-ed by ELAS Technology Investment and i4 Capital, with participation from Quantacet, Boreal Ventures, Eureka Ventures, Hamamatsu Ventures, and VIGO Ventures.   Femtum's product line includes a range of mid-infrared fiber lasers, such as ultrafast lasers, ns lasers, tunable lasers, and amplifiers. The products are designed to deliver high precision and speed, benefiting from mid-IR absorption bands and enabling selective laser-matter interaction.

With watt-level average power, diffraction-limited beam quality, and short pulses down to 100 fs, Femtum's lasers cover the 2. 8 to 3. 4 µm range, providing versatility for various applications. The company plans to use the seed funding to speed up the introduction of mid-infrared fiber lasers designed for semiconductor makers into the market.
