Founded in 2006 and based in Washington, US, Emerald Performance Materials, LLC was formed through the divestiture of six specialty chemical businesses from Lubrizol Corp. The company is led by CEO Edward Gotch and has held partnerships with private equity firms since its creation. The company operates through two main subsidiaries, Emerald Kamala Corporation and CVC Thermoset Specialties. The former entity specialises in industrial specialties such as antioxidants and plasticizers as well as food colouring, flavouring and preservatives.
In contrast, CVC Thermoset Specialties manufactures liquid polymers, epoxy resins, chemical catalysts and latex. CVC Thermoset Specialties was sold to Huntsman corporation in 2020 for USD 300 million and in 2021, the rest of the company was acquired by Lanxess Deutschland GmbH in a deal valuing Emerald at approximately USD 1 billion.
