Desentum OY

Based in Espoo, Finland, and founded in 2011, Desentum OY is a research-oriented, clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company specialized in developing novel types of allergen immunotherapy products. The company was spun-off from VTT technical Research Centre of Finland, following scientific discoveries made by research groups at the University of Eastern Finland and VTT about the mechanism triggering allergic reactions. In January 2017, Desentum OY raised EUR 1. 85 million in series A funding from returning investor Cascara Ventures, new investors ACME Investments, STO-Rahoitus and VTT Ventures.

Additionally, in November 2019, the company raised EUR 4 million in venture funding led by new investor Springvest Oy. Founder Pekka Mattila will remain as CEO of the company. Desentum offers subcutaneous allergen immunotherapies and allergy vaccines to provide long-term relief from allergic symptoms. Desentum’s product development targets both aeroallergens and food allergens.

Desentum has completed a First-in-Human clinical study with the lead product candidate, birch pollen hypoallergen DM-101 which is in the company's pipeline. The company is still conducting further clinical development of DM-101. The company generates revenue by conducting R&D as well as development and manufacture of new modified hypoallergens and allergen immunotherapies that help with allergy symptoms.
