Based in California, US, and founded in 2019, Clarios International Inc. , formerly known as Johnson Controls, and currently doing business as Clarios, is a provider of energy storage solutions for automotive manufacturers and aftermarket suppliers. In June 2019, Brookfield Capital Partners and CDPQ acquired the Power Solutions division of Johnson Controls for nearly USD 1. 3 million and launched the business, Clarios.


In July 2021, Clarios International Inc. has filed an IPO seeking to value the company at more than USD 20 billion. As of September 2021, Mark Wallace is the CEO of the company, and the firm employs more than 16,505 employees. The company has 50 operating facilities, and 6 R & D facilities worldwide, and serves its products in more than 140 countries.


Clarios International Inc. designs and manufactures, batteries for cars, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, marine vehicles, powersports vehicles, and industrial applications. The company’s product portfolio comprises lead-acid batteries, which includes absorbent glass mat batteries (AGM), the solution for handling higher electrical loads mainly aimed at heavy-duty vehicles, standard flooded batteries (SFB), designed to meet the needs of conventional, internal combustion engines – and enhanced flooded batteries (EFB), made for start-stop vehicles, and Clarios xEV, the portfolio of low voltage batteries exclusively designed for plug-in hybrids, hybrids, and EVs. The firm also produces and distributes lithium-ion battery technologies for select markets.


The batteries are designed to support the operational functions and electrical needs of conventional, electric, and autonomous vehicles. The company sells its products through various global and regional brands such as VARTA®, LTH®, Heliar®, OPTIMA®, Delkor®, and MAC®, and distributes its products primarily through the aftermarket and OEM channels. Additionally, it also provides private-label brands to aftermarket customers including DieHard, Interstate, Duralast, Bosch, and EverStart. Clarios International Inc.


generated USD 7,602 million as revenue for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2020, and USD 8,528 million for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2019. Upon completion of the IPO, its Common Stock and Mandatory Convertible Preferred Stock will be listed on the NYSE under the ticker symbols BTRY and BTRY PRA, respectively. The firm intends to use the proceeds for repaying its existing debts.
