About
Based in Auerbach, Germany, and founded by Walter Lorain Cherry in 1953, Cherry SE is a global manufacturer of computer input devices. It initially produced microswitches and later it started manufacturing computer keyboards in 1973, and eventually developed its mechanical switch called the Cherry MX switches. The company was sold to the investment company GENUI Partners and later Argand Partners acquired a 75% majority stake in the company from Genui Partners in September 2020. In June 2021, Cherry AG made an Initial Public Offering (IPO) of EUR 416 Mn on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange under ticker C3RY.
In May 2025, Contour Design, Inc. , a portfolio company of Polaris Private Equity, agreed to fully acquire Active Key GmbH & Co. KG from Cherry SE for EUR 21 million. Cherry SE primarily manufactures high precision switches for mechanical keyboards but the company also designs and manufactures branded gaming peripherals, computer input devices (mice and headsets), and products for security, point of sale, and e-Health applications.
