Based in California, US, and founded in 2018, Freelance Labs Inc. , trading under the name Braintrust, is a developer of a talent platform intended for global freelancers with technical and design skills and connects them to employers. The company was founded by Adam Jackson, Brian Flynn, and Gabriel Luna-Ostaseski and is backed by investors including True Ventures, Galaxy Digital, Blockchange Ventures, and Omidyar Technology Ventures. In December 2021, Freelance Labs Inc.
raised USD 100 million in venture funding led by Coatue Management, with participation from Tiger Global Management. Braintrust is a user-controlled talent network where ownership is represented by a cryptocurrency token called Btrust. This token is used to reward users who build the network, either by inviting new customers or evaluating freelancers. The company generates revenue through the 10% service fee for every talent invoice the client pays.
Braintrust is currently building software for NASA, car software for Porsche, and insurance shopping software for Blue Cross Blue Shield and the company is planning to go public in the year 2021.
