BiVACOR Inc.

Founded in 2008 and based in Texas, US, BiVACOR, Inc. designs and manufactures centrifugal heart pumps. Daniel Timms and John Fraser are the co-founders of the company. The company is on the path to commercialize the Bivacor Total Artificial Heart (TAH), an implantable medical device designed to replace the complete function of the native heart for patients with severe heart failure.

In May 2021, the company raised USD 19 million through a Series B round led by Boston-based Cormorant Asset Management and Australian venture capital firm OneVentures, BiVACOR also received USD 3 million in Small Business Innovation Research grant funding from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute at the U. S. National Institute of Health. The firm’s product, the BiVACOR TAH is designed to be a long-term device that can replace the total function of the patient’s native heart.

This small, compact device uses proven rotary blood-pump technology to provide the required cardiac output. BiVACOR TAH’s futures include rotary pumps, active magnetic levitation, and blood compatibility. The company generates its revenue through its Total Artificial Heart Therapy and technologies. BiVACOR will use the May 2021 funding to advance the company's preclinical verification efforts and hire new team members to support the first human studies using its artificial heart device.
