Founded in 2017 by CEO Mr. Travis VanderZanden, and based in California, US, Bird Rides Inc. , known as Bird, offers a mobile application providing rental services of electric scooters and bikes, and is available on both the App Store and Play Store. The company expanded its operation into a global fleet providing several trips to riders in over 200 cities annually handling over 95 million rides. In 2020, Bird Rides, Inc. raised USD 75 million in Series D funding from new investors Idinvest Partners, Signals Venture Capital, Target Global, and Team Europe. The round was part of a larger USD 350 million in Series D funding.
In 2021, Bird Rides, Inc. merged with Switchback II Corporation, a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC). The transaction is valued at USD 316 million with an equity value of USD 2. 3 billion.
The company offers riders with a map to find the bird nearby and reserve it up to 30 minutes in advance. The rider should scan the Bird QR code with the app to begin the ride. Bird Rides’ vehicles include electric bikes and electrical scooters such as Bird One, Bird Two, and Bird Three with automatic LED headlights. The company’s electric scooters have features including self-reporting damage sensors, self-sealing tires, dual anti-tipping kickstand, and anti-theft encryption.

Bird Rides, Inc. plans on utilizing Series D funding to increase its vehicle development and research initiatives and to support European expansion plans.

Post its merger with SPAC, Bird Rides Inc. plans on becoming a publicly listed company on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and renaming itself to Bird Global, Inc.
