About

Based in South Africa, Biochar Industrial Group, operates as a climate technology company that helps food-processing businesses convert agricultural waste into biochar, generating durable carbon removal credits and supporting soil restoration. Based in South Africa and founded in 2005, Biochar Industrial Group operates as a climate technology company. The company specializes in converting agricultural waste into biochar through a controlled pyrolysis process. The funding will be used to expand its operational capabilities.

Biochar Industrial Group (BIG) specializes in transforming agricultural waste, such as palm kernel shells, cashew husks, and sawdust, into high-value biochar through a controlled pyrolysis process. This method eliminates open burning and smoke emissions while locking carbon out of the atmosphere permanently, resulting in verified carbon credits sold to international buyers. BIG caters to processors generating a minimum of 1,000 tonnes of waste annually, primarily targeting clients in regions such as Africa and Southeast Asia, where agricultural waste is abundant and sustainability initiatives are prioritized. BIG generates revenue through a structured partnership model that shares income from carbon credit sales.

Revenue from the sale of carbon credits is divided among partners, where 20% is allocated to the waste processors, 60% to the financier of the pyrolysis machine, and 20% retained by BIG. In scenarios where partners opt for co-investment, their share of revenue can increase to 50% or more, depending on their investment level. Transactions are facilitated as direct business-to-business partnerships, where processors provide agricultural waste as feedstock and receive a share of the income from carbon credits based on the volume and type of feedstock processed. The company will use the funding to expand its operational capabilities.
