Based in Central, Hong Kong, and founded in 1997, Baring Private Equity Asia, a. k. a. BPEA, and Bearing PEA, is a private alternative investment firm focused on managing a private equity investment program, sponsoring buyouts, and offering growth capital to companies for acquisitions and expansion, focusing on the Asia Pacific region, along with providing dedicated funds to the companies focused on private credit and private real estate.
In March 2022, EQT Partners agreed to acquire full ownership of Baring Private Equity Asia for EUR 6. 8 billion. The deal is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2022. As of March 2022, Jean Eric Salata is the chief executive and founding partner of the company and employs more than 220 employees.
BPEA provides capital in the form of private equity, real estate, and debt for expansion, acquisitions, and recapitalization to the businesses to grow in the long term. The firm invests in businesses with enterprise values ranging from USD 500 million to USD 2 billion. As of March 2022, the company has managed 63 exits in private equity, more than 120 investments in real estate funds, and 38 investments in capital funds.
