Based in Ireland, Athora Ireland plc, formerly known as Aegon Ireland plc, offers reinsurance solutions to insurers. In August 2017, Athora Holding Ltd. , a portfolio company of Athene Holding Ltd. , Apollo Global Management, and Cohesive Capital Partners, agreed to acquire Aegon Ireland plc from Aegon N.
V. for GBP 170 million. Upon completion of a deal, Aegon Ireland plc will be rebranded to Athora Ireland plc. As of December 2021, the company’s CEO is Tadhg Clandillon.
The company offers reinsurance solutions to its customers. In December 2018, Athora completed the sale of the Athora Ireland offshore bond portfolio to Utmost Ireland, representing about €3 billion of assets under administration for 7,000 UK-based customers.
