Based in Arizona, US, and founded in 1973 by Dr. John Sperling, Apollo Education Group, Inc. is a provider of education services initially established as a response to a gradual demand for higher education programs by working learners. It went public in December 1994 and it agreed to a USD 1 billion joint venture with the Carlyle Group in October 2007 to establish Apollo Global, Inc.
, now called Vanta Education, Inc. , for the purpose of investing in the international education services sector. Apollo Education Group, Inc. was eventually taken private by a consortium of investors including The Vistria Group, LLC, Apollo Global Management, LLC, and Najafi Companies for USD 9.
50 per share in cash for both Class A and B shares in February 2017. As of April 2021, the group is being led by its CEO, Gregory W. Cappelli. Apollo Education Group, Inc.
manages Univesity of Phoenix, its flagship institution that offers online and on-campus programs such as bachelor's degree, master's, competency-based programs, doctoral, associate, and certification programs for unemployed and employed learners. Vanta Education, Inc. primarily provides higher education programs through its education brands such as FAEL and Open Colleges. FAEL is located in Brazil and offers university and postgraduate studies online and through its campus and 113 accredited undergraduate learning centers.
Open Colleges is based in Australia and offers more than 130 online education and training programs including nationally recognized qualifications, in disciplines such as health care, community services, business and management, finance and accounting, technology, and design.
