Founded in 2023 by co-founders Nicolas Daffern and Nathan Ratledge and based in Colorado, US, Alta Resource Technologies, Inc. develops and applies biochemistry-based technologies to improve the extraction of critical minerals. In May 2025, Alta Resource Technologies, Inc. raised USD 4.
4 million in seed funding co-led by returning investors Data Collective and Voyager Ventures, with participation from another returning investor Orion Resource Partners. New investor In-Q-Tel also participated in the round. Alta Resource Technologies' offering includes a customisable adsorbent technology that uses custom-designed proteins acting like microscopic robots to separate rare earth elements and other critical minerals. These adsorbents use engineered proteins to achieve targeted separation, even in mixtures with low concentrations of desired elements.
Alta caters to industries such as electric vehicles, advanced electronics, and defence technologies. The company will use the January 2025 funding to enhance and mitigate risks associated with its platform in partnership with Lawrence Livermore while implementing it across an expanding variety of metal targets, ore types, and waste streams, and increase its technical team.
