Rather than depending on genetically modified live cells to manufacture the desired protein, cell-free systems rely solely on biochemical components to convert a DNA sequence into a protein. Cell-free systems can be downsized and automated by avoiding the handling of living cells, making them a fit for high-throughput procedures that screen thousands of protein variations at once. Adaptyv Biosystems plans to use the venture funds received in February 2022 to build a next-gen protein engineering platform to harness this incredible potential.
