Founded in 1988 and based in Lagos, Nigeria, Access Bank Plc operates as a financial service provider. The company started its business as a corporate banking servicer, and later applied its expertise to personal and commercial banking. In 1998, the company became a Public Limited Liability Company, being listed on the Nigeria Stock Exchange. In 2012, the company acquired a banking platform from Nigeria’s International Commercial bank.
In 2022, the company expanded its business to Europe, starting operating in France. In the same year, the company acquired a majority equity stake in Uganda-based Finance Trust Bank (FTB). The company provides four categories of services -- personal banking, business banking, corporate banking, and private banking. The personal banking segment offers borrowing, money transfer, saving & investing and more, while business segment focuses more on business loan, emerging services.
Corporate banking also provides loan services, along with exporters forum, econ forum services. The private banking segment mainly helps clients to invest, by blending finance and investment, accounting and tax, as well as legal and estate planning. As part of the transaction in 2022, the company plans to expand its business to 26 countries in the next four years. As of 2022, the company has presence in 16 countries.
