Preqin survey reveals limited partners (LPs) in Taiwan - both institutional and private wealth - are increasing allocations to private equity and infrastructure

LONDON, 10 March, 2026 – Preqin, a part of BlackRock, announced the release of its report, titled ‘Taiwan private capital investors: Shifting appetites and growing sophistication’, bringing to life key trends from Preqin’s recent survey* of 30 institutional and private wealth investors in Taiwan. The report highlights how these private capital investors are making a decisive shift toward portfolio diversification through private equity, infrastructure, and private credit. This comes as investors need to navigate a landscape defined by opportunities and challenges in the coming year from elevated interest rates and a slow exit environment to currency volatility and regulatory shifts.

“Investors’ growing interest in private markets reflects a desire for diversification and resilience in an era of uncertainty. Institutional investors in Taiwan already run multi-asset portfolios with significant exposure to private markets, while retail investors are gradually gaining access. This shift toward a portfolio-driven approach instead of a product-centric one will support investors in seeking to achieve their risk and return objectives effectively,” said Tiffany Hsieh, Head of Taiwan at BlackRock.

The report further underscores Taiwan’s evolving private capital landscape, as institutional investors and private banks are playing a pivotal role in expanding access to alternative investments for high-net-worth individuals.

“APAC private capital has delivered a decade of strong performance with private equity returning 145%, venture capital 134%, and real assets 90% to investors, each outperforming their regional public benchmarks**,” said Angela Lai, Head of Performance and Valuations in Preqin’s Research Insights team. That strength is now shaping allocator behavior in Taiwan, where investors are shifting from product‑level decisions to a more holistic, portfolio‑driven approach to private markets.”

Key Takeaways Include:

  • Private equity and infrastructure lead the way: 55% of respondents plan to increase allocations to private equity, while 65% intend to boost exposure to infrastructure over the next 12 months.

  • Private credit remains relevant: 42% of LPs surveyed expect to commit more capital to private credit, despite broader market caution.

  • Higher return expectation for VC than global peers: The survey results reveal return expectations exceed those of global peers, with 76% of Taiwan-based LPs surveyed targeting returns of 20% or more, compared to 37% of global institutional investors.

  • Portfolio-driven approach: Investors are moving away from a product-centric mindset, embracing holistic portfolio strategies to manage risk and capture long-term opportunities.

  • Market context: Elevated interest rates, currency volatility, and regulatory changes are shaping allocation decisions, with LPs prioritizing experienced fund managers and strong governance standards.
