Family offices are an increasingly important source of investment into private capital, and 2021 saw these mandates grow even further. Most investor types saw growth between 2020 and 2021, with only public pension funds and wealth managers seeing a drop in mandates issued across the key private capital asset classes.
Knowing where investors are most active geographically and which regions are growing or declining is also important for new managers to optimize their fundraising efforts. Preqin data shows that, from 2017 to 2021, active investors in Asia have grown rapidly, while both North America and Europe have seen a decline.
