Academic Institutions

Columbia Business School

Columbia Business School joins academic theory and real-world practice through broad engagement with the business community. In 2007, the School launched the Private Equity Program, which serves as the Business School's primary point of contact with the private equity industry, unifying students, alumni and the business community into a single network.

ESSEC Private Equity Chair

The ESSEC Private Equity Chair is a forum dedicated to creating and disseminating knowledge on Private Equity and training future industry professionals. The Chair produces academic and managerial research on Private Equity and related topics, organizes events bringing together academics and professionals, and offers advanced coursework to ESSEC students. The Chair is supported by Barclays Private Equity, Grant Thornton and Linklaters.

Harvard Business School

Josh Lerner is the Jacob H. Schiff Professor of Investment Banking at Harvard Business School, with a joint appointment in the Finance and the Entrepreneurial Management Units. He is a top private equity scholar who has a personal home page with much private equity information. In recent years, “Venture Capital and Private Equity” has consistently been one of the largest elective courses at Harvard Business School.

INSEAD - Global Private Equity Initiative (GPEI)

GPEI was launched in August 2009 by INSEAD to combine the energies and talents of the school's research and educational capabilities with INSEAD alumni and global professionals in the PE industry. With a global mandate GPEI focuses its research on Emerging Markets and the needs of LPs.

The African Venture Capital Association is a not-for-profit entity founded to promote, develop and stimulate private equity and venture capital in Africa.


The Australian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (AVCAL) is the voice of private equity and venture capital in Australia. AVCAL's members provide capital and expertise to start-ups, SMEs and large organisations by enhancing innovation, productivity and sustainability.  In turn, the industry plays an important role in the broader Australian economy by building better businesses.


The Bundesverband Alternative Investments e. V. (BAI) is the cross-asset and cross-product advocacy association for the alternative investments industry in Germany. Regarding alternative investments, we advocate for better opportunities of diversification for institutional or professional investors’ portfolios. The main focus of BAI’s efforts is to ensure the German pension and retirement planning in the long run and thus we are a catalyzer between professional German investors and recognized worldwide providers of alternative investments products and services.


The British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association is the industry body for the UK private equity and venture capital industry.

Hedge Funds Care

Hedge Funds Care is an alternative investment industry-supported charity that raises money for the prevention and treatment of child abuse. Hedge Funds Care is active in 11 cities worldwide and has distributed over $19 million and more than 500 grants to community-based nonprofit organizations that work to alleviate child abuse.


The International Project Finance Association (IPFA) is an independent, not-for-profit, professional association dedicated to promoting and representing the interests of both public and private sector organisations involved in project finance worldwide. It has, as its members, key financial institutions, project sponsors, law firms, construction companies and operators active in PPP, project finance and infrastructure markets globally. Collaborating with over 480 members, the IPFA operates worldwide and is continually expanding to provide a continuous programme of over 80 industry events, workshops and consultations, plus training seminars, throughout the year in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, Nordic Regions, Russia & the CIS and Turkey.


LPEQ comprises some of the best-known UK and continental European listed private equity firms, working to increase awareness and broaden understanding of the listed private equity sector across Europe.

The Private Equity Growth Capital Council

The Private Equity Growth Capital Council, based in Washington D.C., is an advocacy, communications and research organization established to disseminate information about the private equity industry and its contributions to the economy.

Singapore Venture Capital & Private Equity Association

Venture Capital and Private Equity, as a source of equity finance, is an important sector within Singapore's financial services industry. The Singapore Venture Capital & Private Equity Association (SVCA) was formed in 1992 under the patronage of the Economic Development Board to promote and foster the growth in this sector.

The Indian Association of Alternative Investment Funds

The Indian Association of Alternative Investment Funds (IAAIF) is a non-profit organization with the objective of promoting and protecting the interests of the alternative investments industry in India. IAAIF was set up by the Association of International Wealth Management of India (AIWMI) and is committed to act as a representative & advocacy body devoted to promote transparency, professional standards and trust in alternative investments. IAAIF strives to promote the professional development of the industry as well as facilitate interaction and collaboration among its members. The association also acts as a platform for dialogue on regulatory and policy issues pertaining to AIFs and building linkages among various stake-holders.

Indian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (IVCA)

IVCA plays a key role in representing the Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) industry and has had a significant impact with the policy makers in Delhi and regulators like SEBI and the RBI. IVCA’s mission is to continuously promote and enlighten the private equity industry and venture capitalists on the developments and market opportunities. Thus it is our constant endeavor that we fortify the PE industry and VCs with knowledge and numbers that depict the true picture of the Indian market. IVCA, by virtue of being the most representative and diverse body for the PE/VC community, provides a platform for member firms to network and share best practices and information. Also it is important for PE/VC firms, LP’s, law firms, financial institutions and other investors that are investing in India to be part of the apex industry body and the local network, so that they can engage directly with regulators and other industry stakeholders.
