Cookie Policy

This policy applies to our use of ‘cookies’ relating to, our platform product Preqin Pro and our research portal Preqin Insights (the ‘websites’).

We aim to be as open and transparent as possible around the information we collect when you visit our websites or mobile apps. This policy explains what cookies are and how we use them. It also explains the distinct types of cookies we use and how you can change or delete them.

We use cookies on our websites to help make your visits more effective. By continuing to browse our websites without adjusting your browser settings to block cookies (for information about how to do this please see below ‘How to change or delete cookies’), you agree to our use of cookies.

What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser onto your computer or mobile device. When you visit the website again, or visit another website which recognizes the cookie, your device can communicate with the website, which can then read the information held in that cookie. This allows it to recognize you, remember essential information and work in a better, more efficient way.

Why are cookies essential to Preqin websites?
Our websites, like many others, use cookies. We use cookies to help you efficiently browse our websites, and to save you time by not having to re-enter your details each time you visit. Cookies allow us to provide you with information and show you relevant content. We also use cookies to analyze how our customers interact with our websites so we can improve the customer journey.

Without cookies enabled we can't guarantee that Preqin's websites and your experiences of them are as we intend them to be. None of the cookies we use collect your personal information and they can't be used to identify you.

Types of cookies

We use four categories of cookie on our websites, based upon the ICC UK Cookie Guide.

Session cookies are temporary cookies which stay in place only for the duration of your visit to our website and are deleted at the end of your browsing session. Session cookies help our websites remember what you chose on a previous page, avoiding the need to re-enter information. Session cookies expire after a browser session ends, so are not stored long term.

Persistent cookies will remain on your device after you close your browser window. They are activated every time you visit the website which created that particular, persistent cookie. Persistent cookies have a longer lifetime than session cookies, lasting for the amount of time specified in the cookie. These cookies help us identify you as a unique visitor, but don't contain information that could be used to identify you to another person.

First-party cookies

As well as the cookies we use on our websites, we use cookies and similar technologies in some emails. These help us understand whether you have opened an email and how you have interacted with it. If you have enabled images, cookies may be set on your computer or device. Cookies will also be set if you click on any link within the email. The types of cookies we use are:

Link tracking - our emails contain hyperlinks, each of which has a unique tag. When you click on one of these links the mailing company logs the click so that we can understand who has clicked through from an email to our website. We use this information to tailor future messages to you.

RIDs - our process for delivering emails may cause cookies to be set when you download images or when you click on a link.

Third-party cookies
Third-party cookies are used to collect information about how you use our website. The cookies collect information, including the number of visitors to the website, where they have come to the website from and the pages they visit, in an anonymous form. We use the information to compile reports and help us improve the website.

Cookies on social media

We embed videos from our partners' YouTube channels using YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode. This mode may set cookies on your computer once you click on the YouTube video player, but YouTube will not store personally-identifiable cookie information for playbacks of embedded videos using the privacy-enhanced mode.

How to change or delete cookies

You can block any cookies from any website by activating the setting on your browser that allows you to refuse the setting of some or all cookies. However, if you block all cookies you may not be able to access all or part of our websites. You can also use your browser settings to delete cookies. Where a cookie is provided by a third party, you may be able to use the third party's own tools to block that cookie. If you share the use of a computer, accepting or rejecting the use of cookies may affect all users of that computer.

Making choices about cookies

If you do not want to accept cookies from our emails, simply close the email before downloading any images or clicking on any links. You can also set your browser to restrict or reject cookies. These settings will apply to all cookies on websites and emails.

In some instances, depending on your email or browser settings, cookies in an email may be automatically accepted (for example, when you've added an email address to your address book or safe senders list). Please check your email browser or device instructions for more information on this.

We hope that this policy helps you understand our use of cookies. If you need further information, please contact us.
