There are 107 private equity real estate fund managers headquartered on the West Coast of the US. These firms have raised an aggregate $67.6 billion for private equity real estate investments over the last 10 years. Notable firms include Colony Capital, headquartered in Santa Monica, CA, which has raised $10.6 billion in the last 10 years, including $4 billion for Colony Investors VIII. The Los Angeles-based CB Richard Ellis Investors has raised over $6.5 billion in commitments in the last 10 years. Shorenstein Properties and Rockwood Capital, both headquartered in San Francisco, have raised $4.5 billion and $3.5 billion respectively over the last 10 years.
West Coast firms raised a total of 11 funds during 2009, receiving aggregate commitments of $4.1 billion. This represented a decline on the previous year, when 25 funds received total commitments of $9.6 billion. West Coast firms are currently marketing a total of 47 private equity real estate funds, seeking aggregate commitments of $13.9 billion.
