Preqin’s Performance Analyst holds performance data for over 5,690 private equity funds, of which 1,620 are venture funds. Using this data we are able to generate a list of top performing venture funds, considering funds of vintages 2008 and older with at least 50% capital invested. The net IRR is used as the main measure of performance to be able to generate and rank the funds in the list.
Of the top 10 performing venture funds that meet these criteria, all are of vintages prior to 1999. AMWIN Innovation Fund, a vintage 1998 early stage fund, has the highest net IRR and vintage 1998 Matrix Partners V is second in the list. The third highest net IRR is Crescendo I, which is a vintage 1995 fund.
It is important to note that the positions of the funds in the list can change as the performance of funds with active investments varies over time.
