Utilising data available on Preqin’s Fund Manager Profiles product, we can sort the firms that have raised the largest amount of capital from various fund types over the last 10 years. A focused search on balanced funds, those that spread investments from early stage through to buyout, reveals that Warburg Pincus has raised the most capital over the last 10 years. The New York-based balanced fundraising specialist has garnered more than $30bn in aggregate capital for its balanced funds, five times more than any other private equity firm worldwide. Its largest single balanced vehicle is 2007’s $15bn Warburg Pincus Private Equity X.
London-based Apax has raised the second largest amount of aggregate capital from balanced funds over the past decade, securing just over $6bn in commitments for its balanced funds. Another London-based firm, balanced focused Capital International, has raised nearly $3bn of capital from balanced funds in the last 10 years.
Completing the top five are Weston Presidio Capital, based in Boston and Baring Private Equity Asia, headquartered in Hong Kong. The US firm has accumulated $2.4bn worth of balanced focused capital in the last 10 years, while Baring Private Equity Asia raised $2.26bn, the largest by any firm based outside of Europe and North America.
