Preqin’s Investor Intelligence currently tracks 20 fund of funds managers that are headquartered in Switzerland. In total, these managers have total private equity assets under management of $78.8bn. The country is home to prominent fund of funds managers; the largest three by assets under management are Partners Group, LGT Capital Partners and Capital Dynamics.
With $29.1bn in private equity assets under management, Partners Group is the largest Switzerland-based private equity fund of funds manager. The fund of funds manager traditionally raises a number of vehicles each year that individually specialise in different aspects of the private equity asset class. Each vehicle may be country specific or specialize in one particular fund type. It invests in a variety of fund types including buyout, venture capital, mezzanine and special situation funds.
LGT Capital Partners manages over $16bn worth of private equity assets. It considers a wide variety of fund types including buyout, venture capital, growth, special situations, mezzanine and natural resources funds. In terms of location, the majority of investments are made in North America and Western Europe. Other locations including emerging markets such as Eastern Europe and Asia are considered.
Capital Dynamics has $8.7bn in assets under management. It has an on-going global investment program which focuses mainly on venture capital and buyout investments in Western Europe, the US and Asia, although it also invests in special situations funds. Funds of funds in market currently that are managed by Capital Dynamics are Capital Dynamics Generation VIII - US Mid-Market Buyout, Capital Dynamics Generation VIII - European Mid-Market Buyout and Capital Dynamics Japan Fund.
