Preqin’s Fund Manager Profiles product shows that there are currently 72 private equity firms headquartered in Switzerland, with 22 of these firms headquartered in Zurich and 20 located in Geneva. Collectively, these firms have raised more than EUR 24.6 billion over the past 10 years, and have total estimated dry powder of over EUR 6.5 billion available for investment.
Twenty-two of these firms offer buyout investments as part of their investment strategy, and 43 firms provide venture capital financing, either exclusively or as part of a broader investment focus. The three largest fund managers by total capital raised over the past 10 years are Partners Group, LGT Capital Partners and Index Ventures.
Partners Group has raised EUR 11.6 billion over the last decade, and currently has an estimated EUR 1.8 billion available in dry powder. The firm primarily raises fund of funds vehicles, but also makes direct investments through growth, buyout and mezzanine direct investment funds. It has no specific geographical preferences, making investments in a variety of locations, with a diversified industry focus.
LGT Capital Partners has raised EUR 5.2 billion over the last 10 years. The firm raises funds of funds and secondaries funds, and invests globally with a diversified industry focus, including business services, financial services, and the technology sector. LGT Capital Partners has estimated dry powder of EUR 1.7 billion available for investment.
Index Ventures makes early stage and venture capital investments in Europe-focused companies which primarily operate in the life sciences and technology sectors. The firm has raised approximately EUR 2.0 billion over the last 10 years and has estimated dry powder of EUR 834 million.
