Preqin’s Fund Managers data shows that there are currently 77 private equity firms based in Switzerland, with 24 of these firms headquartered in Zurich and 16 located in Geneva. Collectively, these firms have raised approximately EUR 23.8 billion over the past 10 years, and there is an estimated dry powder of over EUR 7 billion available to these firms for investment.
Of these 77 Swiss private equity firms, the top five fund managers by total capital raised over the past 10 years are Partners Group, LGT Capital Partners, Index Ventures, CapVis Equity Partners, and Argos Soditic. All five of these firms make investments in Europe, but the three largest also make investments across other geographies.
Partners Group holds an estimated dry powder of EUR 2.5 billion, and has raised EUR 11.1 billion over the last decade. It is primarily focused on funds of funds, but also raises growth, buyout and mezzanine direct investment funds. The firm is headquartered in Zug, and has 15 offices worldwide, including the US, Asia, and Australia. It has no specific geographic preference, making investments in a variety of locations, with a diversified industry focus.
LGT Capital Partners has raised the second largest amount of capital over the last 10 years at roughly EUR 5.1 billion. The firm raises fund of funds and secondaries funds, and invests in Europe, North America, as well as globally. It has a diversified industry focus, including business services, financial services, and the technology sector. LGT Capital Partners has an estimated dry powder of EUR 1.9 billion available for investment.
Index Ventures makes early stage and venture capital investments in a variety of locations including Europe, the US, Israel and Russia. The firm invests in a diversified range of industry sectors, and has raised approximately EUR 1.6 billion over the last 10 years. It has an estimated dry powder of EUR 452 million.
