While investors located in Asia and Rest of World make up the smallest number of all secondary market participants, investors based in the region have a similar proportional appetite for buying private equity or real estate fund stakes on the secondary market as those located in Europe and North America. In Asia and Rest of World, 35% of investors interviewed by Preqin would consider purchasing private equity or real estate fund stakes on the secondary market within the next 24 months. In comparison, 39% of North America-based investors would consider buying in the next 24 months and 35% of European investors would consider the possibility of purchasing fund interests on the secondary market.
One investor located in Asia and Rest of World currently seeking secondary market opportunities is Alternative Investment Capital (AIC). The Japanese-based fund of funds manager has historically committed a small proportion of its fund of funds vehicles to secondaries; however, earlier this year it began raising capital for its first dedicated secondaries vehicle. AIC Asia Opportunity Fund focuses on acquiring secondary interests in buyout and venture funds across the Asia region, including China, India, Southeast Asia and Australia.
