Preqin data reveals that there are currently 164 private equity firms operating from the Nordic region. The latest data from the Fund Manager Profiles database shows that collectively, these firms have raised nearly USD 54.8 billion in private equity capital over the last 10 years, and have over USD 16.4 billion available in dry powder.
Preqin’s extensive research shows that the top five private equity firms in the Nordic region, ranked according to total funds raised in the last 10 years, are EQT Partners, Nordic Capital, Altor, CapMan Capital Management and Herkules Capital.
EQT Partners headquartered in Stockholm is a private equity house focusing on buyouts, growth financing, special situations and infrastructure in Northern and Eastern Europe, Asia and the US. The firm has raised USD 12.7 billion in private equity funds over the last 10 years and has an estimated USD 1.4 billion in dry powder.
Nordic Capital is a buyout-focused firm that targets medium and large scale companies in the Nordic region. The firm invests in a broad range of industries with extensive experience in the healthcare sector. Nordic Capital has raised nearly USD 9.7 billion in private equity funds over the last decade and is currently sitting on an estimated USD 3.6 billion in dry powder.
Altor is a private equity firm focusing on investing and developing mid-market companies in the Nordic region. The firm has raised USD 4.9 billion over the last 10 years and has over USD 2.3 billion in available capital. Altor Fund III is the latest private equity fund raised by the firm. It closed in August 2008 on its target of EUR 2 billion. The fund focuses on investments in Nordic companies in a variety of industries.
