Seventy-seven of these firms are based in Sweden, 48 in Finland, 40 in Norway, 35 in Denmark and four in Iceland. Collectively, these firms have raised €512.7bn in the last 10 years and have an estimated €157.5bn in dry powder. Sixty of these firms pursue a buyout strategy as part of their overall investment outlook and 133 will consider venture capital investments.
The top five Nordic-based private equity firms are EQT Partners, Nordic Capital, Altor, HitecVision and Herkules Capital.
EQT Partners is a group of leading private equity funds with operations in Northern and Eastern Europe, Asia and the US which focuses on buyouts, growth financing, special situations and infrastructure. The firm has raised €14bn over the last decade and has an estimated €5.3bn in dry powder.
Nordic Capital invests in the Nordic region and Europe's German-speaking countries. The firm has a generalist buy-out approach and its industry focus is diversified, though it has a special focus on healthcare. Nordic Capital has raised €7.8bn over the last decade and has an estimated €1.1bn in dry powder.
Altor is a private equity firm investing in companies in the mid-market segment of the Nordic region. Altor primarily seeks investment opportunities in the 2,000 Nordic companies with revenues between €50mn and €500mn. The firm has raised €3.9bn over the last 10 years and has just over an estimated €1bn in dry powder.
