MPAERS issued an RFP for a general investment consultant earlier in September, with proposals due on 16th October. The investment consultant’s duties will be to aid the retirement system with the following: general investment policy and procedures, asset allocation, manager search and selection, general research and analysis, investment planning, performance analysis, and manager oversight. A three-year contract is on offer, with the option to renew for a further two more years. The contract is expected to be awarded in December 2009, and will be effective from 1st January 2010.
MPAERS actively invests in private equity funds through the Pension Reserves Investment Trust (PRIT) fund, a pooled investment fund established in 1983 to invest the assets of the Massachusetts State Teachers’ and Employees’ Retirement Systems, assets the assets of various county, authority, district and municipal retirement systems that choose to invest in the Fund.
