Largest UK Buyout Firms

In a previous blog we revealed the top 10 New York buyout firms measured by total funds raised in the last 10 years. Following on from this, we used data from Preqin’s Fund Manager Profiles database to discover the top 10 buyout focused private equity firms in the UK.

Preqin’s data show that, from the 145 buyout focused firms currently based in the UK, the largest by total funds raised in the last 10 years is London-based CVC Capital Partners, with $37.7 billion raised since 1999.
 
Following CVC Capital Partners is Apax Partners. With its most recently closed buyout fund, Apax Europe VII, collecting €11.2 billion in capital commitments, Apax Partners has raised $35.2 billion in the last 10 years. The third and fourth largest buyout firms to feature are Permira and Pantheon Ventures, which have raised $23.3 billion and $18.6 billion respectively. Completing the top five firms is 3i. Formed in 1945, 3i has raised $15.7 billion in the last 10 years.

BC Partners is next with $14.1 billion, followed by Charterhouse Capital Partners, Bridgepoint Capital and Cinven, which have raised $13.7 billion, $12.8 billion and $12.6 billion respectively. Concluding our list of the top 10 buyout firms measured by total funds raised, we have Terra Firma Capital Partners, with $9.7 billion raised in the last 10 years.
