In a recent blog, I looked into which cities play host to the most private equity fund managers and unsurprisingly found that cities within North America dominated the results. Following on from this, I thought it might be interesting to focus on what are the most prominent cities for European private equity fund managers.

London is home to the largest number of private equity firms in the region, with 282 active firms currently based in the city, making it the private equity capital of Europe.  This is followed by Paris, with 112 active private equity firms currently based in the capital.

The third largest city in Europe by number of private equity firms is Milan, which is currently hosting 53 active private equity fund managers.  This is followed by both Munich and Stockholm, where there are 45 active private equity fund managers headquartered in each.
Madrid is the sixth largest city by number of private equity firms in Europe, with the Spanish capital currently hosting 34 active fund managers.  Following on from this, Amsterdam is the seventh largest city by number of firms in Europe, with 22 private equity fund managers currently based in the Dutch capital.

Frankfurt, Moscow, and Zurich complete the rankings of the top 10 largest cities by number of private equity firms in Europe, with the German, Russian, and Swiss cities each currently hosting 21 active private equity fund managers.
