Israeli Private Equity Firms

Preqin data reveals that there are currently 85 private equity firms operating from Israel. The latest data from the Fund Manager Profiles database shows that collectively, these firms have raised over USD 13 billion in private equity capital over the last 10 years, and have over USD 4.7 billion available in dry powder.

Preqin’s extensive research shows that the top five private equity firms in Israel, ranked according to total funds raised in the last 10 years, are DFJ Tamir Fishman Ventures, Pitango Venture Capital, First Israel Mezzanine Investors, Markstone Capital Group and Carmel Ventures.

Tel Aviv-based DFJ Tamir Fishman Ventures targets investment in the areas of information technology, communications, internet and emerging technologies such as life sciences, clean energy and agro-technology. The firm has raised nearly USD 3 billion in private equity funds over the last 10 years and has an estimated USD 2.3 billion in dry powder. Tamir Fishman Russia Venture Capital Fund is the latest private equity fund raised by the firm. It closed in December 2008 on its target of EUR 2 billion. The fund focuses on investments in Russian companies developing innovative technologies.

Headquartered in Herzliya, Pitango Venture Capital is mainly an investor in seed and early stage companies, but does not exclude expansion and later stage companies. The firm looks to invest in communications, software and internet, network and storage, telecoms, life sciences, nanotechnology and clean technology. Pitango has raised over USD 1.1 billion in private equity funds over the last decade and is currently sitting on an estimated USD 224 million in dry powder.

Founded in 1997, First Israel Mezzanine Investors (FIMI) is Israel's first dedicated mezzanine and buy-out private equity firm. FIMI invests in a variety of selected business sectors including computer software, consumer electronics, communications, automotive, plastics, textiles, metals, water purification and food. The firm has raised over USD 900 million over the last 10 years and has over USD 400 million in available capital.
