Global Breakdown of Private Equity Real Estate Firms

Private equity real estate saw significant growth in recent years, with many new players entering the market. There are currently almost 900 active private real estate fund managers active worldwide, with 55% located in North America, 28% in Europe and 17% elsewhere.

The US has by far the largest number of private equity real estate firms. 489 firms are headquartered in the US and have raised an aggregate total of $452 billion in the last 10 years.  The next most significant location is the UK, where 112 fund managers are based. UK fund managers have received aggregate commitments of $50 billion in the last 10 years. There are 22 firms located in both Australia and India, with Australian firms responsible for raising an aggregate $8.5 billion. Indian firms, which were discussed in greater detail in a recent blog, have raised a total of $9.2 billion.

Other important locations include Germany and the United Arab Emirates, which are each the base for 19 firms, whilst Hong Kong, the Netherlands and Singapore have 16, 14 and 12 fund managers respectively.
