Collectively, these firms have raised almost EUR 14.8 billion over the past 10 years, and there is an estimated dry powder of EUR 4.8 billion available to these firms for investment. Over 67% of these firms are based in Milan, and they account for 81% of capital raised over the past ten years by Italy-based fund managers.
The top five Italy-based fund managers by total capital raised over the past 10 years are Clessidra Capital Partners, Investindustrial, IDEA Capital Funds, Sanpaolo IMI Private Equity, and Investitori Associati. These five firms alone account for 47% of total capital raised over the period by these 83 fund managers. Collectively, the five firms have approximately EUR 2.3 billion estimated dry powder available to them to invest, and all have a diversified industry focus. All five firms target opportunities across Europe, and most also consider opportunities worldwide.
Clessidra Capital Partners is based in Milan, and applies buyout, privatisation, public to private, and restructuring strategies to its investments across Europe. The firm has raised EUR 2.2 billion over the past 10 years, and has an estimated EUR 1.1 billion available for investment. Clessidra Capital Partners has a diversified industry focus, and past investments include renewable energy, manufacturing, industries, and utilities industries.
Investindustrial is also headquartered in Milan, and makes buyout investments across Europe, with no specific industry focus. The firm has raised EUR 1.6 billion over the past 10 years, and has approximately EUR 420 million of dry powder available. Investindustrial has offices located across Europe, as well as additional offices located in China and the US.
