Venture capital fund investments have been a mainstay of the private equity market since the tech boom of the late 1990s. Venture capital is an important asset class to many different LPs around the world, making it an important pillar of private equity globally.
Preqin Investor Network has information on venture capital funds currently being raised across all regions; it currently tracks 89 Europe-focused venture capital funds seeking capital. Of these Europe-focused venture funds, 76 are being raised by fund managers located in Europe, 10 by North America-based GPs, and three by fund managers are located in the Asia and Rest of World region. Europe-focused venture funds managed by GPs based in the same region are currently seeking to raise an aggregate $9bn, with the average fund size being $147mn. Twenty-seven Europe-based fund managers raising European-focused funds are targeting less than $100mn in committed capital. Two of the largest Europe-focused venture funds are Dutch Technologies Media Telecommunications & Infra Fund, seeking €1bn, and Mandarin Capital Management’s Capital Partners II, which is looking to raise €500mn.
