Preqin data shows that there are 163 funds currently being raised by fund managers located in the UK, seeking an aggregate of USD 74.2 billion in capital commitments. Real Estate vehicles account for the largest share of capital being sought and the most funds in market, currently with 57 funds on the road seeking an aggregate USD 20.4 billion in capital. Infrastructure funds account for 27% of UK private equity funds seeking an average USD 0.8 billion per vehicle. There are, at present, 20 private equity buyout funds currently seeking investor commitments, targeting an aggregate of USD 8.8 billion.
81% of all funds currently being raised by UK-based fund managers primarily focus investments in Europe. There are a further 2% of fund managers focusing capital from the UK into investment in North America. The remaining 17% of UK fund managers are looking to take advantage of investment opportunities in the Asia and Rest of World region.
The largest fund currently seeking capital in the UK is the RREEF Pan-European Infrastructure Fund II. This fund from RREEF Infrastructure is currently raising capital with a target size of USD 3.8 billion. The vehicle will focus on investing in mature, secondary stage infrastructure assets located in the EU and will only make investments in infrastructure assets under which it can obtain meaningful influence over the business strategy, management, governance, capital and legal structure.
Pantheon Global Secondary Fund IV, a secondaries fund from Pantheon Ventures targeting USD 3.8 billion in capital commitments, and African Agricultural Land Fund, a USD 3.2 billion natural resources fund from Emergent Asset Management are the next two largest funds being raised by UK-based private equity firms. Pantheon Global Secondary Fund IV will purchase fund interests on a global scale, focusing on buyout, venture and special situation funds. The African Agricultural Land Fund will focus on investing in Sub-Saharan agricultural land.
