Preqin data reveals that there are currently 371 private equity funds on the road targeting Europe, attempting to raise an aggregate of EUR 101 billion. Real Estate vehicles are the most numerous type of fund accounting for 95 funds and targeting a total of EUR 26.8billion. Those are very closely followed by venture funds with 94 vehicles looking to raise capital commitments of EUR 8 billion. In terms of aggregate capital being sought, infrastructure fund take the lead with 39 vehicles targeting EUR 27.2 billion.
The largest of these funds currently seeking capital is Pantheon Global Secondary Fund IV. This secondaries vehicle from Pantheon Ventures is seeking USD 3.75 billion. The fund purchases fund interests on a global scale. It is expected to buy interests in buyout, venture and special situation funds.
The second largest fund targeting Europe currently seeking capital is RREEF Pan-European Infrastructure Fund II from RREEF Infrastructure targeting EUR 3 billion in capital commitments. It will invest in a diversified portfolio of infrastructure assets, with a primary focus on mature assets in the EU and EFTA regions. The fund will target investments in which it can obtain meaningful influence over the business strategy, management, governance, capital and legal structure.
