Preqin’s Performance Analyst holds net-to-LP performance data for almost 5,800 funds, of which over 1,600 have a venture strategy. Using this data, Preqin has determined the most consistent performing venture fund managers.

Our methodology allocates top quartile funds with a score of one, second quartile funds two, and so on. The list is also restricted to fund managers who have raised three or more venture funds; furthermore the fund managers must be active and have raised at least one of these funds in the past six years, or be currently raising a fund of a similar strategy.  All fund managers are then ranked by their average score in order to reveal the most consistent performers.

Top of the list are Benchmark Capital, BlueRun Ventures, Charles River Ventures, GGC Capital, Pittsford Ventures Management and Sequoia Capital, all showing a maximum score of 1.00, which indicates that their funds are all top quartile performers. The only managers who appear on this list based outside the US are Finland-based Helmet Venture Managers, Australia-based Lion Manager and Luxembourg-based Magrove Capital Partners, all who achieve a score of 1.33. This list also includes some well-known firms such as Matrix Partners, achieving a score of 1.17, Bain Capital with a score of 1.33 and Battery Ventures scoring 1.50.
