Water Island Capital was founded in 2000 by John Orrico, who remains the firm's president and CIO. The firm focuses exclusively on global, catalyst-driven investment opportunities. Its investment philosophy maintains that disciplined, event driven investing across geographies, industries, and securities can generate absolute returns in the long run regardless of market conditions while providing lower volatility than global capital markets. The firm has two distinct investment capabilities: merger arbitrage (equity and credit) and special situations (equity and credit).
