Founded in 2017 by Luiz Alves, Versa Gestora de Recursos ("Versa") is an investment management firm located in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The company focuses on long-term investment ideas uncorrelated to the overall Brazilian equity market, generally looking at a 5 -10 years of the investment horizon. Its investment process consists of a fundamental analysis of individual companies combined with macroeconomic and sector outlook, targeting to capture discrepancies between value and market prices. Versa employs significant leverage and utilizes derivatives instruments, such as options and futures, in some of its portfolios, most notably the firm's flagship Versa Long Biased FIM. In these cases, portfolio managers seek to implement both single-name and directional short positions, with limited exposure. The firm utilizes strict risk management, separated by individual books within the portfolio, to avoid significant drawdowns. Its geographical focus is the Brazilian market, however, sporadic positions in global markets may be implemented through the use of BDRs (Brazilian Depository Receipts).
