Spectrum Group Management was established in 1999 by Jeffrey Schaffer, a former senior manager at Salomon Smith Barney in the high-yield and distressed trading group. The New York-based investment firm is actively investing in real estate and hedge fund asset classes. Spectrum’s real estate arm specializes in the acquisition and management of real estate assets. It also targets opportunities in retail properties across the western region of the US. The hedge fund manager platform targets opportunities in special situations, event-driven, and asset-based credit investments. The firm identifies small- to mid-cap companies that are consistently overlooked by market participants and invests across the capital structure to produce an idiosyncratic return profile with low relative volatility.
