Safkhet Capital

Established in August 2017, Safkhet Capital (Safkhet) is a New York-based hedge fund manager managed by Fahmi Quadir. The firm offers a short-only investment that focused on delivering alpha generation for its investors. It is named after the ancient Egyptian goddess of knowledge, accounting, mathematics, and wisdom. Safkhet seeks to embody these ideals through a no stone left unturned approach to research and due diligence; top to bottom, between the lines analysis of a company's financials; use of alternative data to recognize fraudulent patterns and extrapolate the quantitative narrative of a company's decline; humility in the face of adversity with the promise to learn from mistakes made and mistakes observed. Investments are driven by fundamental research, pattern recognition, and identifying fraudulent archetypes, such as financial, governmental, and healthcare schemes. Deep forensic research with an exhaustive investigative approach is deployed to identify companies with overlooked vulnerabilities which could catalyze a greater than 60% loss in market value. Safkhet strives to have multiple ways to win in its arsenal so investments may be made with greater surety and expertise. The depth of Safkhet's investigative and forensic works allows for very concentrated, high-conviction investments with fewer than 15 investments at any given time. It is sector-agnostic and invests mainly in public equities, with a few uses of equity derivatives and opportunistic investment across a company's capital structure. Its risk mitigation focuses on preventing the permanent loss of capital. Investors should expect significant short-term volatility driven by non-fundamental price action. Fahmi Quadir previously managed the short book at healthcare equity long/short fund, Krensavage Asset Management (Krensavage). It is a $300 million equity long/short fund. While at Krensavage, Fahmi spearheaded a significant reduction of net exposure. At peak, she managed one-third of Krensavage's exposure and was responsible for all of the fund's profits in 2016, nearly $80 million. Fahmi is also the protégé of Marc Cohodes, the former managing partner of Copper River Partners, who calls her the brightest light in short selling today, a generational talent. Fahmi graduated in mathematics and biology from Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, CA. Her rigorous STEM background ensures she remains objective and empirical in her approach. Christina Clementi joined Safkhet Capital in 2017 as the firm’s first analyst. She works directly with Fahmi on fraud discovery and forensic due diligence. She also performs internal portfolio analytics and other operational tasks. Ms. Clementi recently completed her MBA from Yale and focused on investment management and finance. She received honorary distinctions in all related coursework and the highest distinction in Security Analysis and Valuation.
