Established in 2003 by Jaffray Woodriff, Michael Geismar and Greyson Williams, Quantitative Investment Management is a quantitative hedge fund manager based in Charlottesville, Virginia. QIM currently utilizes numerous quantitative trading models that use pattern recognition to predict the global equity and futures markets. The firm was founded on the belief that markets are not entirely efficient and that numerous small inefficiencies can be exploited through the use of quantitative analysis and predictive techniques. QIM describes its strategy as pattern recognition. The firm strives to identify human behavioral patterns in daily price data, a short-term trading duration that is neither high-frequency trading nor trend following. QIM employs machine learning to drive 24-hour directional predictions across each of the 40 most liquid futures markets and the 1700 most liquid US equities, ETFs and ADRs.
