Pershing Square Capital Management is a hedge fund manager based in New York. It is a concentrated, research-intensive fundamental value investor in long and occasionally short investments in the public markets, typically focusing on large-cap and mid-cap companies. The firm is also known to take activist positions. It was founded in 2004 by William Ackman, a graduate of Harvard Business School who began his career in equity and debt financing at Ackman Brothers & Singer Inc., a real estate business, and later co-founded Gotham Partners, an investment advisor managing public and private equity hedge fund portfolios.
