Hg is a successor to Mercury Private Equity, which was acquired by Merrill Lynch in 1997. In December 2000, Mercury Private Equity staff acquired the business from Merrill Lynch and renamed it Hg Capital. As of Q4 2017 the firm goes by Hg. Hg is a growth stage private equity firm software and tech-services investor, focused on building SaaS and backing businesses that provide critical services for many thousands of businesses globally. Hg has led over 170 investments in this sector and is currently invested in over 45 software and technology transatlantic businesses, with its large-cap strategy, Saturn, now invested in software buyouts in Europe (Access Group, IFS and Visma). Hg is helping to progress the digitization trend across various sectors, where businesses are adopting more technology to enhance what professionals within that industry can do. To support this, Hg uses its experience in technology and vertical application in the businesses it invests in, with an investment team of over 170 professionals, including a portfolio team of around 500 functional experts, providing practical support to help its businesses to realize their growth ambitions. Hg has nearly 380 employees across Europe and North America, with offices in London, Munich, New York, Paris and San Francisco.
