Blackstone Group, established in 1985 is a New York, US based investment firm based in with offices in multiple locations globally, including, London, Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Sydney and Singapore. Blackstone’s alternative asset management businesses include private equity, real estate, hedge funds, credit, secondary funds, infrastructure, and natural resources. The firm’s private equity vehicles typically carry out leveraged buyout acquisitions of seasoned companies, transactions involving growth equity or start-up businesses in established industries, distressed debt, structured securities, and industry consolidations in a wide variety of industries and geographies. Blackstone also provides various financial advisory services including corporate, mergers and acquisitions, restructuring, reorganization, and fund placement advisory. The firm targets global real estate investments and aims to find a quality, income-producing assets at discounts to replacement costs. The firm improves the properties through hands-on management and targeted investments. Its portfolios include premier properties in many top locations, with a diverse mix of hotels, office, retail, industrial, residential, and healthcare assets. Blackstone will seek to invest in large-scale primarily US-based infrastructure and natural resources assets as well as companies. The firm has previously invested in clean power, energy transmission, and communications technology. In March 2008, Blackstone acquired GSO Capital Partners, a credit-oriented alternative asset manager, which manages CLOs, senior debt funds, multi-strategy credit funds, distressed debt, and mezzanine funds focused on leveraged finance marketplace. In 2011, Blackstone formed the Tactical Opportunities business; a proprietary investment strategy that pursues a global multi-asset class approach to investing in illiquid assets focused on timely opportunities that fall outside other Blackstone alternative fund strategies. In April 2013, Blackstone made plans to acquire Credit Suisse's secondary private equity business, Strategic Partners. The deal was finalized in August 2013. In 2018, Blackstone acquired Clarus Ventures, which made investments in medical and life science companies; the firm became Blackstone Life Sciences. In July 2019, Blackstone completed its conversion to a corporation from a publicly traded partnership.
