Alternative Investment Capital

Alternative Investment Capital (AIC), also known as A.I. Capital, is a private equity fund of funds manager based in Tokyo, Japan. The firm seeks buyout, growth as well as venture capital opportunities globally, particularly in Japan, US, and Europe. It provides investment management and advisory services for Japanese institutional investors including banks, insurance companies and pension funds. Additionally, the firm also focuses on venture capital, an illiquid alternative assets area. AIC was established as a joint venture among Mitsubishi Corporation, Daido Life Insurance Company, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation and Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking. In November 2020, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation acquired 19.9% of shares in AIC from Mitsubishi Corporation, thus increasing its shareholdings to 60%. Due to the change in its ownership structure, AIC currently operates as a subsidiary of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, while Daido Life Insurance Company and Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking remain as its shareholders, respectively holding 36% and 4% of its shares.
