Based in Uusimaa, Finland, and founded in 2021 by Matti Tähtinen (CTO) and Tuure Parviainen (CEO), and Jarna Hyvönen (COO), Volare, a spinoff of VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, refines food waste into protein and lipids for the fish feed and pet food sectors. In June 2021, Volare raised EUR 700,000 in seed funding led by Maki.vc, with participation from VTT Ventures. As of June 2021, the company employs approximately six employees. The company converts agricultural waste and waste from breweries and mills into high-value, usable protein and lipids for the fish feed and pet food industries using its proprietary black soldier fly technology. The company intends to use the June 2021 funding to build a pilot facility for black soldier fly breeding.
